"The Fiona Apple of Comedy"

Robin ‘n’ Me

2 Comedy Legend Ships In The Night.

Like everybody else, I was shocked and saddened to learn about the death of Robin Willilams.

For hours after I heard the initial news reports, I checked CNN to see if there was a followup that said it had all been a mistake or some kind of sick joke.

Obviously, it was all too real and as the days have gone by, people have been sharing their remembrances and condolences about this wonderful man who had touched so many peoples’ lives.

I remember sometimes he would come to watch the improv jam at the Brown Door Theater-where I perform with my improv group, UnMixed Nuts!, every sixth Saturday at 8:30.

Anytime he was there, the place would just come alive with excitement. You could feel the electricity in the air. My group and I have had some great shows and we consistently get amazing reviews from the press, but the buzz around Robin’s appearance was easily equal to or perhaps even greater than this!

I mean we put months and months of work into our performances, all for a single show every sixth Saturday at 8:30 at the Brown Door Theater, but this guy just breezes in and casually steps on stage and creates magic!

Sadly for everybody involved, as fate would have it, we never got to cross paths and now we are always going to wonder what could have been. I’m sure we would have thought us kindred spirits, admired our talent and together, we would have blown some minds. But as his character said in the movie, Aladdin, “Hakuna Matata!”

hope you are at peace, brother,

Eric Filipkowski, co-founder UnMixed Nuts!
